How it helps

The MeacoCool 12000 BTU pulls warm air from your room, cools it, and blows it back out while venting the heat through a hose to your window. In winter, it reverses the process to provide heating. A drying mode removes moisture when the air feels thick and clammy, and a fan-only setting moves air without cooling. The dual-wrapped compressor keeps vibration low, so the unit runs at 45dB in Super Quiet mode, roughly half the noise of older portable air conditioners.

Getting the best from it

• Fit the window kit properly. The unit comes with a standard rigid kit and a flexible kit, sealing the gap so warm air cannot creep back in and undo your cooling.
• Use the app to schedule cooling or heating before you enter the room, or adjust a child's bedroom temperature without opening the door and waking them.
• Dim the display and engage Super Quiet mode at night. This slows the fan, lowers the noise, and cuts the light that might disturb sleep.
• Move it where you need it. The castors let you roll it between rooms, though at nearly twenty-nine kilograms you will want to plan the route and avoid stairs.

Who it suits
