If you live in a smaller home and keep finding mould on the walls, streaming windows, or clothes that take days to dry, you know how miserable damp can be. This is the problem the MeacoDry ABC 10L was built for. It is a compact, quiet compressor dehumidifier designed specifically for flats, terraced houses, and homes up to three bedrooms.

How it helps

A compressor dehumidifier works like a small fridge. It draws in moist air, chills it so the water condenses onto a cold coil, then drips into the tank or out through a hose. The dry air is warmed slightly and blown back into the room. At 27°C and 60% relative humidity, this unit extracts up to 6 litres of water per day. In warmer, wetter conditions it can reach 10 litres per day. You set your target humidity between 30% and 80% in steps of 5%, and the machine cycles on and off to maintain it. The washable dust filter catches airborne particles, and the two fan speeds let you choose between quieter running or faster drying.

Getting the best from it

• Position it in the dampest room, well away from walls and curtains, with doors closed so it is working on one space rather than the whole house.
• Use Laundry mode when drying clothes indoors. It runs at full speed for 6 hours then switches off automatically.
• Empty the 2.6 litre tank daily, or fit a 14mm internal diameter hose for continuous drainage into a sink if you can raise the unit on a worktop.
• Clean the filter every few weeks. A blocked filter slows airflow and reduces efficiency.

Who it suits

This suits people in smaller homes, flats, or spare rooms who want a quiet, affordable way to stop condensation and dry laundry without a tumble dryer. It is particularly good for bedrooms and living areas where noise matters, running at just 36dB on low speed. It is not for unheated spaces below 5°C, where a desiccant dehumidifier works better. It is also not for large houses with four or more bedrooms, or for serious rising damp that needs building work. The 2 year parts and labour warranty covers normal domestic use.
