If your windows stream with condensation on winter mornings, or you have black spots of mould creeping into corners, the air in your home is holding too much moisture. Drying laundry indoors makes it worse, leaving walls damp and clothes smelling musty. A dehumidifier pulls that water out of the air before it can settle on your walls or furnishings.

How it helps

The MeacoDry ABC is a compressor dehumidifier. It draws air across cold coils to condense the moisture into water, which collects in the internal tank or drains away continuously if you fit a hose. In warm conditions it can extract up to 12 litres of water per day, dropping the humidity to a level where mould cannot grow and laundry dries faster. At one metre away it runs at 36 to 40 decibels, so it will not disturb conversation or sleep.

Getting the best from it

• Use Laundry mode when drying clothes indoors. The unit runs at full speed for 6 hours to combat the humidity spike, then switches itself off to save energy.
• Empty the 2.6 litre tank daily, or set up continuous drainage with a 12 x 15mm hose (not included) if you are leaving it running unattended.
• Set your target relative humidity in steps of 5 percent between 30 and 80 percent. This lets you balance comfort with energy use.
• Remember that extraction slows in cold rooms. At 10 degrees Celsius it manages only 1.90 litres per day, so keep the room heated above 15 degrees if possible.

Who it suits

This suits smaller homes and flats where space is tight and noise matters. It is ideal for living rooms and bedrooms where you need quiet, continuous control of condensation. It is not the right choice for unheated garages, sheds or conservatories in winter, because compressor units lose efficiency as temperatures drop toward 5 degrees. If your problem is severe damp in a cold stone basement, you would need a desiccant model instead. It comes with a two year parts and labour warranty.
