Irish summers are getting hotter, and upstairs bedrooms can become unbearable when the sun beats down all day. If you are lying awake at night, kicking off the duvet and listening to a noisy fan that only moves hot air around, this is the kind of problem that keeps you exhausted through the working week.
How it helps
The MeacoCool Pro 9000 is a proper air conditioner that removes heat and humidity from your room, rather than just pushing air about. It works like a fridge in reverse, drawing warm air over cooling coils and venting the heat outside through a hose fitted to your window. The Dry mode also cuts that sticky, clammy feeling by pulling moisture from the air. You control it with a remote or through the Meaco app on your phone, so you can start cooling your bedroom before you even head upstairs.
Getting the best from it
- Set the timer to switch on an hour before bedtime, so the room is already cool when you arrive.
- Use Sleep Mode at night, it lowers the fan speed, dims the display lights and runs more quietly.
- Fit the window kit properly to stop warm outside air sneaking back in, both the standard kit for sash windows and the flexible kit for other types are included.
- Move it between rooms on the castors if you work from home, but remember it needs a window for the exhaust hose wherever it goes.
Who it suits
This suits anyone with a bedroom, home office or conservatory between 16 and 26 square metres who wants genuine cooling rather than just moving air about. It is ideal if you struggle with sleep during heatwaves or find fans ineffective. It is not for whole house cooling, you would need multiple units or a different system for that. It is also not for very small rooms under 16 square metres, where it may overcool, or for anyone without a suitable window to vent the hot air outside. The unit weighs 23.5 kilos, so while it moves on wheels, you will need to lift it over thresholds.
